I Studied Movies Because of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Superhero movies were never really my thing. I've seen various Spider-Man movies and Marvel movies. Out of order, very casually and probably not all on the big screen (the way movies are supposed to be watched). The only one I actively sought out to watch besides Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was Black Panther.
When I saw the trailer for this movie, I thought “hey, this looks cool. Maybe I’ll check it out.” Cool doesn’t even begin to describe the piece of art this film is.
I simply thought this was going to be another animated film. I liked animated movies. Why wouldn’t I watch this one? I thank myself for that decision often. I was so determined to see this movie that I went to see it by myself after my friends were busy. This came at a point where I was determining what I was going to study for the rest of my time in university. I was taking a film studies class and it wasn’t until I watched this movie that I decided to add film studies as a minor. That’s why in my review of the sequel, I had to watch it. This movie directed me to my passion for movies and what they mean. This sequel inspired me to start a blog.
But enough about me and more about the movie. Into the Spider-Verse inspires that anyone can be a superhero. “Anyone can wear the mask”, right? Miles just has to work a little bit harder for this to come naturally to him. Without his Spider-Man friends by his side, I don’t think Miles would have fully embraced being the only and only Spider-Man in Brooklyn.
Even when they told him he wasn’t ready, Miles took it upon himself to get ready and take a “leap of faith.” This moment creates the best scene in the film. A piece of art I would hang in my house.
The heart of the story is great, and you combine that with beautiful animation and an amazing soundtrack. It’s something that sticks with you for a long time. It’s a good thing they put this movie on Netflix. I have watched it countless times since that first watch. Although, I do recommend this biggest screen you can find. This is a movie that you need to feel fully immersed in on first watch.
